Angelica Leigh, Ph.D.

Hello! My name is Angelica Leigh, Ph.D. and I am currently an Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

My research centers upon topics related to race and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in organizations. I employ both quantitative and qualitative methods to understand the unique experiences and perceptions of underrepresented racial minority employees within diverse organizations. For example, in several research projects I examine how mega-threats, highly publicized identity-relevant societal events, like the death of Black civilians at the hands of police or mass shootings that target racial minority communities influence the work behaviors of racial minority employees. Furthermore, I also examine behaviors that racial minority employees engage in to combat racism and further advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

My research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Science, and the Journal of Applied Psychology. I have also published several Harvard Business Review articles, which allows me to provide practical insights to managers and employees from my research. I have received several awards for my research including the Academy of Management Journal’s best published paper award for 2022 and the Responsible Research in Management award. I was also selected as a Distinguished Fellow by the University of North Carolina Kenan Institute for Private Enterprise in 2023.

I am also very involved with the PhD Project organization, which is an organization dedicated to increasing the number of underrepresented faculty in business schools.
